Maryville Community Recreation Center

Maryville, MO

Flexible recreation center design offers diverse fitness and amenities to accommodate growing community needs

Create a highly flexible community center with diverse amenities and dual use as a National Guard readiness center, and integrate a subsequent expansion with the existing structure to ensure a cohesive, welcoming environment.

Designers worked with City of Maryville staff to identify user needs and desires and functional and aesthetic goals for the project. Following completion of the original facility, Maryville residents overwhelmingly approved funding for an expansion, bringing SFS and city leaders back together to envision a unified, integrated design.

The original 56,940 SF center succeeded in its goal to become an inviting, dynamic resource for Maryville residents. It includes a three-court gymnasium, full-service kitchen, aerobics/dance studio, weight training/fitness, child care, meeting rooms, locker/shower areas and Parks and Recreation Department offices. The design incorporates visibility between program elements to strengthen interaction between activities and create a sense of excitement throughout. The new two-story addition includes an aerobics/dance room, cardio room, offices, storage, a meeting room, personal training space, a kids’ dance/yoga room and a coffee bar. Simple, cost-effective finishes and furnishings combined with extensive natural light create a flexible, enjoyable space that will provide long-term value to the community.
