Technology integrated study space design within college library building

Challenge

Create a technology friendly study space that provides students a variety of environments for study, research, and wireless computer use within an existing university campus library building.

Process

SFS worked with university representatives to identify how students were using the existing space and what research and study activities could be enhanced through an inviting area with greater technology integration and accessibility.

Solution

The James B. Nutter Family Information Commons, located in the Ellis Library Building, provides learning spaces ranging in scale from individual, small group, to sound isolated group study areas with various types of individual and small-group seating. Hardwired library computers, personal computer docking and wireless access are available. The welcoming environment is enhanced through finishes and colors that connect the interior elements to the library as a whole, creating an easily recognizable sense of place within the library.
