St. Peter’s Catholic Church and School
Renovation of aging school and narthex addition to accommodate academic and fellowship needs of the parish
Modernize learning environments and improve circulation throughout the 1920s era school building; expand the iconic church to create much-needed gathering space.
A complete assessment of the school building, its infrastructure and grounds was conducted to understand existing conditions and improvements required to modernize the building. Working with a Building Committee and key stakeholders, a program of requirements was developed for the school building and gathering space for the church. Options and associated costs were developed and evaluated for both the school renovation and church narthex addition. Special consideration was given to respect the architectural vocabulary of the historically significant existing buildings. A final direction for both projects was arrived at, and presentations given to the parish. Plans, renderings and other data were developed to support the Parish’s capital campaign. Following a successful campaign, architectural and interior design services were provided for both projects.
Circulation and accessibility within the school building were improved by reconfiguring classrooms and adding an exterior stairwell; classrooms refreshed with new interior finishes; and upgrades made to the building envelope, MEP systems and life safety. A new 2,600 SF glass and stone narthex connecting the church and school building provides additional gathering space.
