St. Joseph Catholic Church (Topeka)
Restoration of Catholic church built in 1900 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places
Develop a plan for restoring this historic church to its original grandeur.
Following a building condition assessment, concept designs were prepared for restoring both the exterior and interior of the historic church. Following a successful capital campaign, SFS continued with final design, documentation and construction oversight of the restoration.
The exterior restoration includes tuck pointing, stone repair and consolidation, exterior painting, sheet metal replacement, flashing and sealant, new handrails, retaining wall replacement, and repair of stairs and exterior doors. In Phase 2, the interior environment will be restored, including new finishes, plaster repair, decorative and general painting, restoration of natural wood finish throughout, replacement of wall between narthex and nave, elevator replacement, new handrails, renovation of the Adoration Chapel and Sacristy, and design of a new Altar and Ambo. Phase II also includes restoration of stained glass, statuary, Stations of the Cross and murals.
