Livestock Barn at Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm
Design of a new livestock barn at the historic Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm, a living history farm telling the story of the Mahaffie family by demonstrating the lifestyle and techniques of a 19th century farmstead
Design a new barn to house livestock and support the daily operations of this historic site while enhancing the visitor experience.
A building conditions assessment of the existing barn, including a 3D laser scan, determined a new structure was required. Collaborated with farmstead representatives and State Historic Preservation Office to design a structure that complements rather than replicates the architecture of the historic site and supports the programmatic activities of the farmstead.
A new 8,500 SF barn with an exterior clad in cedar siding with vertical battens consistent with other utilitarian structures on the property. The new barn serves as a highly functional component of the farmstead while enabling visitors to interact with livestock, observe 19th century farm implements in use, and participate in demonstrations and other activities.
