Lenexa City Hall
Expansion/renovation designed, built on tight budget without operational disruptions
Challenge
Create a new expansion and renovation of an existing city hall facility, allowing easily accessible public interface areas and a functional basement, within a limited budget and without disruption of city departmental operations.
Process
The designers worked closely with Lenexa city leaders to determine project needs and goals and to provide program refinement, master planning, and complete architectural and interior design services.
Solution
The completed 13,500 SF expansion provides new departmental offices, conference rooms and a public, multiuse lobby area that allows public access after-hours. The project also includes an accessible basement with natural light and reuse of existing chambers. All elements were designed with a strong, cohesive visual identity that creates a monumental, yet welcoming, image of the city hall. The 24,500 SF existing building renovation was sequenced to allow continuous operation during construction.
