Chautauqua Swimming Pool

Beloit, KS

New municipal swimming pool featuring a leisure pool with zero depth entry, diving area, exercise/lap swimming, a lazy river, drop slide, family slide and deck sprays

Challenge

Develop a design for a new swimming pool that was economical to build, operate and maintain, while providing a variety of aquatics features that would meet the varied needs and desires of the community.

Process

SFS worked with the Beloit community, through public meetings and a citizen’s survey, to develop options and ultimately select the preferred design solution for the new municipal pool. A site plan and 3D rendering were created and used during the pre-referendum campaign to help build support and excitement for the project. In addition to a Facebook page, a website was developed to promote the project with information regarding design, costs, benefits and financing for the project.

Solution

On June 7, 2011 the City held a special election for the ballot issue and the vote passed by a vote of 643 to 382.  The SFS design team promptly started working on design documents to achieve the city’s goal of opening the new pool in time for the 2012 Memorial Day weekend.  Working closely with the client team and the contractor, the schedule was met. The new municipal swimming pool features a leisure pool with zero depth entry, diving area, exercise/lap swimming, a lazy river, drop slide, family slide and deck sprays.
