Church addition/renovation to support space needs of growing congregation

Create an addition/renovation design for an existing church to enhance worship, fellowship and service activities of a growing congregation.

SFS designers collaborated with St. Thomas More Parish representatives to identify space and functionality needs and determine the aesthetic goals for the space.

The 10,000 SF addition includes a new 5,000 SF narthex with elevator and 5,000 SF of meeting, Sacristy, nursery and storage space. A covered drop-off and vestibule and handicapped accessible parking also were added, and unfinished basement space below the Narthex was added to allow for future expansion. Renovations to the existing church included window replacement and stained glass restoration, Stations of the Cross reinstallation, reroofing, security enhancement and technology upgrades. Environmental responsibility was a priority for the project so sustainable initiatives, such as daylighting, HVAC controls/monitoring, recycled materials and a pervious asphalt parking lot, were implemented throughout the project.
