Evaluate an existing federal courthouse building and develop a plan to improve its overall energy performance – including a “cool” roof, photovoltaic installation and energy system enhancements – under the GSA’s High Performance Green Building Upgrades program.

The SFS design team worked closely with the General Services Administration project manager and team members to identify and evaluate opportunities to enhance the courthouse building’s energy efficiency and performance.

For the eight-story, 286,000 SF Dole Courthouse, SFS, in conjunction with Rand Construction, Derbigum Energy Innovations and e-PGEN, installed a new super-insulated white “cool” roof and a 22 kW photovoltaic system, which provides the federal government the opportunity to reduce its energy demand and generate its own energy. New retrofit energy system upgrades also will include various HVAC equipment upgrades, lighting system upgrades, advanced metering and controls, a new entrance vestibule, and selective detailed building envelope improvements to reduce air infiltration and improve the building’s overall energy performance.
