United Methodist Church of the Resurrection
Phased master plan creates signature church without interrupting use during building
Challenge
Create a master plan for a new church in a growing suburban community to expand worship and religious education facilities while allowing continued operations.
Process
Our design team worked with church leaders to develop the master plan to be implemented over a 10-12 year plan and take a “rational,” three-phase approach to expansion for this new, growing congregation.
Solution
The design provided the congregation with sacred space for worship during occupancy of the first two “temporary” spaces, accomplished through planning for future needs and a design that utilizes natural and artificial light, proportion, form, finish and color. The first worship space provided a gathering space and entry area for the third-phase 1,700-seat worship space. SFS also provided programming and master planning services for the ultimately 7,000-seat church, classrooms, offices, meeting rooms, wedding chapel, sports facilities, fellowship hall and space for a future K-12 school.
